The following may be helpful to you. This information on "Byron" Combs
comes from "The John Jay Dickey Diary, Sentiments From Southeastern
Kentucky"; which was transcribed from Dickey's diaries. Dickey was a
circuit preacher, who interviewed many folks in beginning in the 1890's. He
interviewed John S. Combs, Hazard, KY, 26 Apr. 1898. According to John S.
Combs.....
"George Combs had children as follows: Caliborne lived in Owsley, Byron
dead. Elijah lived in Perry. He was General of the militia. He had sons:
Jesse, Elijah, and Jackson Combs."
