Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
A little fact to all of you out there about the 2000 Census. I strongly
urge you to make copies of the census record that you fill out because once
they enter they computers, they are destroyed by a shredder. So, your
actual copy will be history other than computer records. And remember,
those entering the information into the computers are only human and are
prone to make mistakes.
This is a message to several newsgroups so feel free to delete after reading
it once. This is a little long so I hope you will bear with me. I will try to
include something everyone can use.
My name is Leon Morris & I have been on some of these sites for several
years. I have a true love of all my people and I have said many times that
genealogy is the best hobby I have ever had. With nearly 20 years of
research under my belt, I think the Internet is the greatest thing for
genealogy research, since sliced bread. It seems to get better everyday. My
problem is, due to heart disease & diabetes, I feel like road kill on the
information highway. I have a great life but I cannot keep up! I must
unsubscribe to all of my newsgroups but Breathitt Co. & Clay Co., KY. Most of
my people ended up in these areas and stayed 200 +/- years. I was born in
Breathitt Co., KY. If I owe you a letter, please write again. I gladly share
anything I have on my families, as health allows.
Here are some web sites that may help you.
http://www.CyndisList.com (The most links!!)
http://www.ancestry.com/lessons/academy.htm (Must see site for How-To!)
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/searches/rslsearch.html (Roots Surname)
http://www.combs-families.org/ (One of the best family sites)
I have about 100 pages of web sites that I want to revisit. I will send them
to anyone who wants them. The one BIG shortcoming of web research is the
limited or lack of, documentation. REMEMBER, IF YOU CANNOT PROVE IT, IT IS
NOT NECESSARILY CORRECT.
My research is restricted mostly to Eastern KY, VA & Western NC ( many from
Wilkes Co.). My Allen line came from New England to NC & then KY. I still
have copies of my family book for sale covering all of my 150+ surnames. (
My book is: "Morris Fork Kentucky", Family Stories and Genealogies from
Breathitt County and Eastern Kentucky) I am pleased with my book & feel that
it may be the most important thing I have done in my life except continue my
line. I will soon be a Grandfather for the fourth time. Hundreds of year
from now, their descendants will know who we were & that we sent our love &
best wishes down through the ages.
Email me for details. I will send you a long form letter & order blank. You
will them know all about me, ALMOST.
I have been working for about 1 ½ years on a time capsule for each of my
grandchildren. They are to open them Dec. 25, 2020. I doubt that I will be
there so you can bet that they will each have three of my books, family
pictures, home movies, family mementoes & dozens of other things. This is
the best idea I have had in a long time.
I will sign back up to several newsgroups later this year, health permitting.
Again, please forgive the length of this email. Send email to me, good or
bad, at: Lmorris116(a)aol.com or call 616-641-7071.
Best Wishes & Good Hunting,

I'm looking for pictures of people who served in the Civil War, either
Union or Confederate. I'm in the process of putting together a book on
various regiments. In exchange for the picture, I'm willing to provide
either a copy of the soldiers pension record or service record. If you
have a picture of a Civil War Ancestor that served in the Civil War,
would appreciate hearing from you.
I am looking for information on the Marshall Cemetery located in
Ricetown/upper Wolf Creek, Kentucky.
It is a small cemetery and I don't know if there is a book or listing,
but if anyone has any information I sure would appreciate it. I just
found out that many of my Marshall and Bowling relatives are buried
Thank you in advance for any help.
