Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Folks, I have written privately to many about the latest version of the LDS
Personal Ancestral File (PAF) being available to everyone. It is no secret
that FREE is my choice.
The site has a Download center and it is very much suggested that you
download the new version for your genealogy files. It will seek out your old
version and you allow it to replace your old version. All your input files
and notes will remain just as you had before the update to the latest version
Many have been unaware this is now available. The download center starts with
JOHN in CA
Just a note to let you all know that I have uploaded 1 more section to the
1850 Clay Co. census it is section 5 and I want to thank Charlotte Miller
for her efforts transcribing the this section.
I have also uploaded 3 sections of the 1860 Clay Co. census. I would like
to extend a thank you to the transcribers of these sections also they were
Bernice Kharrat, Dianne Delitto and Patty Brock
The URL for the census Index is:
There are several more sections of these two census's just about ready to
upload so stay tuned.
Does anyone have information or documentation of a marriage between a Zachary
RICHARDSON and Dianna FOX on 15 May, 1873?
I do not know which county the marriage might have taken place in.
I need to find out if the marriage information is correct, and if so, who the
parents of the Zachary Richardson are.
I know of only 2 Zachary "Zachariah" Richardson's from the Estill County area:
1. Zachariah Richardson, b. 1828, the son of Bradley Richardson, Sr. and
2. Zachary Richardson, b. ca. Dec. 1849, the son of Absolom Richardson and
Martha "Patsy" Barnes.
I have further information on Zachariah Richardson #1.
I am posting this to multiple county lists. I am sorry for any duplicate
A note to let everyone know I had a hard drive melt down last week and have
been off line. I am back up and running again, I lost no information and am
in the process of answering all of my mail now.
Owsley County Families is a two volume set available at the Kentucky
Historical Society in Frankfort. The Kenton County Public Library in
Covington, Ky has a copy on microfilm. It appears to be a "home-made" book
with Mr. Bowman's typewritten notes on individuals, one per page. Lots of
information on Owsley families including Bowman, Peters, Moore, Evans,
Wilson, Treadway, McGuire, etc.
Apparently after James F. Bowman died (1971) his family donated copies of
his material to KHS. Besides the OCF, they also have the Owsley Censuses
1850-1880 transcribed and annotated by JFB plus a book of Owsley County
Cemetery records, a book on the Bowman family "The American Bowmans" and
various minor works and loose papers.
KHS also has material by James's brother Arch (died 1987), including four
rolls of microfilm on Owsley families. There is some overlap with JFB's
book but also lots of new material. Arch also wrote a book on the Treadway
family which is at KHS and he wrote or started to write a book on the
KHS used to sell microfilm copies, but they've stopped. You might be able
to purchase microfilm through the Kentucky Department for Libraries and
Archives even though the original is at KHS. Write their micrographics

what libraries have a copy of this book?
Michelle Williams Cole
I have seen a lot of Bowman family info at the Owsley Co. library in
Booneville, KY. I think it was by James & Arch Bowman.

Breathitt County and Eastern Kentucky)
