Looking for info on the above family. I'm finding some loose ends and
trying to tie them up..but then, aren't we all.
The first is John LYNCH & Edith/Eda HOOVER. According to censuses, they had
the following children:
Daniel, b. Abt. 1849, May, b. Abt. 1851, James, b. Abt. 1859, Louisa, b.
Abt. 1863, and John, b. abt 1867.
I've also got a Louisa LYNCH who was born (according to another source) 23
Mar 1865. She married Joseph N. BLEVINS, s/o Eli BLEVINS & Armilda "Milly"
HUBBARD, second wife of Daniel HOOVER who was the father of Edith HOOVER.
Are these the same Louisas?
Ok...now here's the next one, as if you're not turned around enough.
Eli BLEVINS & Milly HUBBARD had a daughter, Hulda, who according to one
source was born abt. 1859. I've also got a Hulda BLEVINS who married Daniel
SPARKS in Jackson Co. on 09 Feb 1875 in Jackson Co. The dates I've got for
this one (not sure exactly where they came from...Guys, please document your
sources!) are 06 Feb 1854 - 10 Jan 1920. According to the Sparks Family
Quarterly, her last name was BLEVINS, but according to the 1900 Jackson Co.
census, her last name was LYNCH. Are these the same Huldas?
Now...for the last one...same family group, new questions:
Milly HUBBARD had a child after Eli died, William H. BLEVINS, born 17 Nov
1866. He married a Mary L. LYNCH who was born 28 Nov 1871 in Estill Co.
According to a web site on the Blevins family, Mary & Louisa (who married
William's half-brother) were sisters. Their father's name was possibly
Is there anyone out there who could help me untangle this little problem?
They can all be found at various times in Estill, Jackson or Owsley County.
I am searching for information on the ancestors and siblings of Andrew
CORNELIUS b abt 1813 in ???? co. , KY, d July 13, 1896 in Jackson co KY. In
1880 census of Jackson co KY it was stated that his mother was born in VA,
microfilm is unclear about place of birth of father. Andrew was also called
Ambrose for some reason on this particular census. Last name at various
times in censuses was spelled CORNELIOUS. While all other tax lists and
censuses spelled it CORNELIUS, two times there it was spelled
CORNELISON....1842 Laurel co tax list and in the 1874 obit in Rockcastle
county of his daughter Martha.
Possible brothers are Zion(md Sally PARKER), Eli(md Nancy PARRIS), Allen(md
Drucy ?), William(md Decy PARRIS in Clay co 1822), Lorenzo(md Permilla
GILLISPIE in Madison co in 1842) and Manat. Each of these were neighbors in
Laurel county, KY during 1840's and on the Laurel co tax list at one time or
another in that decade. He may have had sisters Nancy or Sally(md to John
INMAN in Clay co in 1833), Elizabeth(md Stephen GUMM in Clay co in 1822),
Millie(md Joel DAVIS in Clay co 1826) and Patsey(md Benjamin BROWN 1826 in
Andrew md 1st Elizabeth SIMPSON, dau of Rev War vet John SIMPSON and Debra
PHILLIPS, in Laurel co in 1838. From census records and marriage records it
appears that Andrew and Elizabeth had the following children:
1) Deborah b abt 1839, md Green PARKER
2)Zion, b 1840
3)John, b 1842, md Lucinda FREEMAN
4)Silas, b abt 1844
5)Sarah Jane, b 9-10-1845, md George ANDERSON
6)Rebecca, b 1846
7)Elizabeth, b 9-19-1846 md Elisha JACKSON, moved to Arkansas
8)Martha, b 1848, d 1874 in Rockcastle co KY, md William TAYLOR
9)Polly, b 1848
10)William Harvey, known as Harvey, b 10-7-1851, md Lydia TRUITT
11) Andrew Jr., b 1854,d 1892, md Martha BRANSTETTER
12) Lafayette(my greatgrandfather) b 11-10-1855, md Mary Belle THOMPSON
Some of these children may be duplicates. For instance Polly may be Martha.
We just don't know.
Andrew md 2nd Martha Patsey PARKER 11-13-1859 in Jackson co KY and had the
following additional children:
1)Preston, b 1860, md Helen HORN
2)Minerva b 1862, md William NICELY
3)Frances, b 1869 md Andrew ISAACS
4)Franklin, b 1872, md Nancy EDWARDS
5)Palestine b 1875 never married
Andrew lived on the Rockcastle River most of his adult life and was a
builder of water mills.
Most probable for parents of Andrew(only because of geographical closeness)
are the John who was in the Clay co census of 1820 and who was married to a
Patsey ?....OR, a John CORNELIUS who md Rachel BUNDS in Madison co KY in
1806. A Moses CORNELIUS who never shows up on any tax records or censuses
was involved with my family in two land transactions.
Thank you for any ideas or suggestions.
Good job. Glad to see you working so hard. If you find anything that may
be interesting for my PHILLIPS and CORNELIUSes, please let me know.
Very interested in finding the connection between Debra Phillips
SIMPSON(widow of Rev War Vet John SIMPSON) and Aaron PHILLIPS and his wife
Mary METCALF, parents of the PHILLIPS who md HARRISON.
Also interested in finding parents and siblings of Andrew CORNELIUS, b abt
1810-1813 in KY and who died in Jackson co in 1896. He married first in
1838 in Laurel co Elizabeth SIMPSON, dau of John SIMPSON and his wife Debra
I know that you probably have most of this already. I just wanted to try to
capsulize it for you.

Seeking information on Aaron PHILLIPS b abt 1778 and Deborah PHILLIPS born
abt 1773 supposedly in Spartanburg, SC. We have info that father is
Stephen, but no proof. Aaron moved to Clay co KY in early 1800's in that
part of Clay that became Laurel co in 1825. Aaron died in Laurel co KY in
1855. There may have been two Aarons in the area as there is one who did
land transactions in Sturgeon Creek area of what is now Owsley co, but
perhaps it is the same one. I do not know.
He married Mary METCALF, we think second. He had son John b abt 1803 in KY
and died 1890 in Laurel co KY(md Jane FARRIS), Elizabeth b abt 1825 KY(md
Andrew HARRISON) and possibly Rachel, b abt 1813 in VA. This indicates that
Aaron was in KY early and probably married to someone other than Mary
METCALF. He then went to VA where he "probably" married Mary METCALF and
had daughter Rachel. They then returned to KY where they had Elizabeth.(the
dates of birth and names of children are taken from the 1850 annotated
census of Laurel co KY available at the LCHS.)
It is possible that Aaron first married a BARNES in KY.
We think that Deborah is his sister and know that she was in Barren co KY in
1810 where she married John SIMPSON. There is a Stephen PHILLIPS listed in
the 1810 Barren co census, but no Aaron.
Anyone with info on this family or families, please contact me.
Thank you so much.
Does anyone have any information on the following family?:
1880 Owsley County Census
Baker, Eliza J. 40 single KY KY KY
Daniel 11 KY KY KY
Garrett 4 KY KY KY
I think that Daniel may be my gr-grandfather whom I have been researching for
years to no avail. Any info, no matter how small will be greatly appreciated.
Did you ever find the parents of Mary GUMM? Was she a sister of Stephen who
md Elizabeth CORNELIUS? Did Bright, who I believe is son of Rev War Vet,
John PHILLIPS, have a brother Aaron and a sister Debbie?
Enough questions? All were living in area of Sturgeon Creek, now Owsley.
