I am looking for information on a Brown family located in Nicholas, Bath and
Fleming Counties in the 1820-1870 time frame. My gggrandfather was Abraham
Brown. According to family lore he was born in Bath County in 1818. He
married Elizabeth Hensey in 1847 in Nicholas County. She was the daughter of
John Hensey and Margaret Alexander, and she was born in Nicholas in 1820.
John Hensey was born in PA and died in Nicholas and is buried in Mt. Zion
Cemetery in that county, as is his wife. There were several Hensey offspring.
Abraham and his wife are listed in the 1850 census in Nicholas County along
with their baby daughter Sarah Jane. The other children were John, James
Allison, Cyrus T and Samuel. Sarah and John died in the 1860s in Fleming
County. The others migrated with their parents to Ohio and then to Rush
County, Indiana. Abraham died there in 1871, and is buried in that county.
My great-grandfather James Allison was supposedly named for a man in Nicholas
County area who taught Abraham the trade of cabinet making. Abraham had a
brother Daniel and an uncle Daniel. I would really like to connect Abraham
to the rest of his family, but have had no luck. He lived in the same area
as Milton Brown. Can they be related? There are a number of Brown families
in that area, and I just know Abe belongs to one of them. Can anyone help?
