I noticed that there is a cemetery shown on topographic maps near Jackstown
in western Nicholas County. It appears to be about 50 feet up the hillside
from Rte 13 near the intersection of Rte 3316. I would appreciate knowing
1. Has the cemetery been read?
2. Is the information published?
3. Where might I find information?
My reasoning is simple. I am looking for the burial of GIBSON ancestors in
the 1790s. They were said to be "buried with Martha Rogers and others on the
south bank of Hinks[t]on, opposite the mouth of Taylor's Creek, there being
no church graveyards." Although my analysis is that it is located South of
Taylor's Creek and some of the other wording doesn't seem to fit, it could be
the cemetery mentioned by the author. It appears to be on land that once
belonged to the author's brother and adjacent to land that had been owned by
All guidance appreciated.
Does anyone or is anyone doing research on the Thomas and Shields lines?
Looking for information on William Shields and Baker Shields.
