Here is what I have on my McCarty line:
I have two GG grandfathers named John McCarty. One is John Ellet McCarty,
born 20 Oct 1825 in Highland Co., Oh. He was the son of Nathaniel & Jane
(Betsy) Ellet McCarty. No info on Nathaniel & Betsy except they were originally
from KY but moved to Ohio before John Ellet was born. John Ellet married Mary
Ann Groves (daughter of Michael Groves & Mary Ann (Cinthia) Callahan) in Fleming
Co. 15 Sep 1845. The other John McCarty is John Bush McCarty, born 6 Feb
1825 in KY. He married Martha (Patty) Collins, 6 Feb 1851 in Fleming Co. I have
not been able to find John Bush's parents. John Bush was killed 16 July 1864
near Hutchinson Station in Bourbon Co. I was always told he was killed by
the "Night Riders," but have since learned he was shot at Hutchinson Station but
died in a military hospital in Lexington. He is buried in the military
section of the Lexington cemetery. Info from the cemetery indicates he was listed
as a prisoner of war (POW). I think he must have been one of Gen. Morgan's
men who was routed after the battle of Cynthiana and was trying to escape back
to his home. He was killed a couple of days after the battle.
I was in contact with a lady several years ago that had done extensive
research on the McCarty families from Bath county. I think I found her on GenForum.
If you get a chance you might find her there.
