Many if not most of you know Sheryl Slaughter (or at least have worked with
her on different genealogy projects). She's the main coordinator of the KY
Vital Records Project, and has also been active in other projects in the
past. It's with a heavy heart that I am passing on this information.
Sheryl called me early this morning and shared the fact that her husband,
Mike, who'd been battling cancer for the last few months, passed away at
4:13 this morning. She'd moved him into the hospice unit at St. Elizabeth's
last night to control symptoms she could no longer manage at home. Their
daughter and family had come into town on Tuesday evening, and were still
there when he passed.
Specifics on Mike's funeral from Sheryl:
Date: Wednesday, June 14
Visitiation: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Funeral Service: 1 p.m.
Where: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 144 Buttermilk Pike,
Lakeside Park, KY
Directions:
From Cincinnati: Take I-75 south into Kentucky. Take exit 186 (Buttermilk
Pike). Turn left.
From Lexington: Take I-75 north. Take exit 186 (Buttermilk Pike). Turn
right. (This is within a very few minutes of the intersection of I-75 and
I-275 in KY.)
The church is about 1/2 mile on the left.
Flowers: She would prefer that you not send flowers. If you would like, a
memorial can be sent to Hospice of Northern Kentucky. Several people have
sent notes with stories of their special experiences with or fond memories
of Mike. She has loved receiving those. If you would like to send such a
note, it will become a priceless treasure!
We're so grateful for all your prayers and have felt them continually.
Please continue them. My heart is breaking with sadness, as are the hearts
of our daughter and dear grandchildren. However, we know that the Comforter
will attend to our needs. All is well and our hearts will mend.
If you'd like to send a personal note to Sheryl, you can send it to her
personal email or to mailto:kyvitals@yahoo.com or to me and I'll forward it
if you don't have her personal email address. (I don't want to publish her
personal email address since the KYGenWeb-KVRP mail messages are archived.)
