We've transcribed nearly 6,000 death certificates. We've also received many
hundreds of death and marriage submissions from site visitors. Currently, we
are significantly behind on getting the transcriptions proofed, so we will
have a break for several weeks on new transcription assignments.
The search engine is still not finished or operational. Our site is too
large to be searched by any of the free search engines out there. We are not
permitted to write any scripts (programs) for sites hosted by RootsWeb. That
leaves us two choices: have an
Ancestry.com programmer volunteer program for
us in his/her rare spare time or figure out a way to house a search engine
at a site other than RootsWeb. We are pursuing both.
We have just lost a huge asset to the project. Ellen L. (Lynn) Penick has
taken a new job and moved. We are SO sorry to see her leave. Lynn is
skilled, dedicated and a wonderful team player. She shouldered a large
portion of the project for many months!! Thanks Lynn! Well done!!!
The project is in good shape. We have to work out details and overcome
challenges along the way. This is a natural process with GenWeb projects.
Volunteers come and go as their circumstances permit. The challenges we face
when dealing with RootsWeb's limitations will be overcome. We thank them for
the free server space to house our projects. The 6,000 transcriptions will
shortly be searchable and we'll begin transcription again as soon as we get
caught up on proofing.
Thanks to our ever-growing team of volunteers. You're vision is wonderful.
You're commitment is appreciated. Your service is treasured!!
