Transcribers and proofers, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you DO NOT use the back button once
you've submitted a record to try to get a second chance at the the last certificate
submitted. Doing this will bring up a warning that the page has expired and instructs you
to click the refresh key. Clicking the refresh key, even though it looks like it is
working, will cause the information from the previous record to be populated onto the next
one and you'll end up erasing the correct information in the database for the next
certificate that you'll be working on.
This may not be the only cause of overwritten records, but it is one that is easily
avoidable. If you realize that you submitted a record before you were finished
transcribing it, drop a note to your proofer or you can reset the transcription status if
you know exactly what certificate it was. If you submitted a record before you were
finished proofing it and if you know exactly what certificate it was, you can reset the
proofing status to start over. If you're unsure of the certificate number, report the
problem using the "contact project administrators" link and we'll search for
it and reset the proofing status so you can complete the job.
If you pull up a record to work on and it contains information that doesn't match
the information on the image, PEND the record and report it to the Project
administrators.
This is the one mistake that cannot happen on the project!! If you overwrite a record
from the database with information from a certificate for a different individual, you have
destroyed 2 records. You have wiped out the individual you wrote over, and you have
created a record with incorrect file numbers for the person on the certificate! The
proofer would never know you have done this. We are very forgiving of all other errors on
this project, but not this one!!
Thanks,
Sherri
