Well, KVRP is up in it's infancy and as of now, we've averaging about 300
hits per hour! I just wanted to give you an update on where we are with the
project, and the processing order.
Transcribers are currently working on the first batches of death
certificates. We have 600 assigned out and nearly 10,000 to process. The
images are online. Volunteers are transcribing the images to an online form
which automatically generates a web page.
After the transcriber finishes his work, his assigned folder passes on to a
proofer, who will view the online transcription and image and key any
discrepancies into another online form.
A third party will compare the proofer's discrepancies against the original
transcription and make a final decision as to what will appear on the site.
From there, the work passes to an indexer, who will correct the
existing
entry and add the mother's name, or create a new index entry as
needed.
He/she will then make the index link active, leading site visitors to the
transcription and death certificate image.
At the same time, we are accepting death certificate images and
transcriptions by site visitors, as well as corrections and additions to the
index entries. Several visitors have submitted corrections and additions to
complete surname index pages!
Sometime in the next week, you will begin seeing those names in the index
begin turning into links to transcriptions and images. It will be slow!
There are about 141,000 index pages. When we spread our 10,000 current
images among them, it won't look like we're making much headway. It won't
happen overnight, but it won't take forever either. It will take us a few
weeks to get a solid group of experienced volunteers. The more we get
trained, the faster the project will grow.
All in all, I'm thrilled with where we are! I hope you all feel as good as I
do about the work we've done together.
Thanks so much for your commitment,
