After much consideration and input from some of you, I've made a change to the
transcription instructions in regards to the Principal Surname of the deceased if there
are both a mother and father listed, but the mother's surname is listed as the
Principal's Surname field instead of the father's.
If you have a certificate that has both a mother and father listed, but the surname
listed for the deceased is the MOTHER'S instead of the father's, leave the
mother's surname in the PrincipalSurname field and list the father's surname in
the PrincipalSurname2 field. This will allow either name to be used as a search criteria
that would hopefully produce results for a reasearcher.
If you have a certificate that has both a mother and father listed and the surname
listed for the deceased is the FATHER's, there will be no change in the process
we're currently using (i.e., the father's surname will be listed as the
child's).
Thanks,
Sherri
