Our goals for the month of August were to put 5,000 images on our web site and transcribe
5,000 records. During August, we experienced a database problem (caused by me) that shut
us down for several days and forced the repeating of about 500 transcriptions.
Even with the short work month and some repeated work, you did a fantastic job in
exceeding our goals!
Images added to the site in August: 6,634
Transcriptions completed in August: 5,927
I guess we won't have any problems meeting our goals for September of 6,000 images and
6,000 transcriptions!
We currently have on the site:
Images: 21,797
Transcribed Records: 19,741
We will be moving the site to a better web server and are planning to launch the new site
about October 1. We will probably launch it to this list for a couple of days first for
testing and troubleshooting. Plan on various parts of the project to be shut down for
short times as we move them over to the new server.
We've acquired 44 rolls of microfilm of rejected delayed birth certificate
applications for birth years prior to 1911. We are in process of beginning to image those.
In total, the project currently has in excess of 60 rolls of microfilm either being
scanned or scheduled to be scanned as quickly as we can get to them. We need volunteers
all over the country who are willing to help with scanning these images using a microfilm
scanner, or who own good digital cameras and are willing to help shoot some of these
images.
The main page of the old web site will be changed today to announce the upcoming launch of
the new site. If you meet your goals for this month, we will re-launch with more than
25,000 transcribed images available for our site visitors.
In addition we will be adding a couple of new transcribers to the project in September and
will be putting out a call for volunteers in a variety of areas. We are particularly in
need of persons who own photo editing software and can help crop and enhance these
images.
We currently have 6 project administrators:
Sheryl Slaughter -- Project Coordinator
Janice Armstrong -- Assistant Project Coordinator -- Deciphering
Sherri Hall -- Assistant Project Coordinator -- Imaging
Tanya Holliday -- Assistant Project Coordinator -- Computer Programming
Barbara O'Nan -- Assistant Project Coordinator -- Special Assistant & Special
Projects
Sue Robertaccio -- Assistant Project Coordinator -- Workflow Management
I want to thank all of them and all of you for your commitment to this fantastic project
and for your support as we move forward. You have proven to be excellent genealogists,
wonderful team players and great friends!!
