As of this morning, we are halting transcription and the forms have been taken down from
the site. When we resume, it will be on the new site, with records going directly into the
new database. If you have an unfinished assignment, don't worry about it. We'll
make sure it is waiting for you when we resume.
The Kentucky Death Index (more than 2.5 million records) is now uploaded into the new
database. The transcriptions you've all worked so hard on will be uploaded in the next
few days. Site visitor submissions will follow shortly thereafter. We're working on
the staff login, forms and interface and will keep you posted as the time nears for your
assignments to resume.
Thanks to all of you who are working on special assignments gathering information to make
the site a wonderful resource.
Each of you will be asked to register on a rather lengthy form before resuming
transcription. You'll be asked about your preferences for county assignments, your
skill levels, areas of expertise, internet connection speed, softwares you have that might
be useful on special projects, etc. We will store this information in the staff records so
we know exactly what you want to do, how much time you wish to commit, etc. This will
enable us to customize the project to fit everyone's needs.
We are in need of people willing to help process images. If you have Adobe Photo Elements,
PaintShop Pro or another good photo editing software, a high-speed internet connection and
the desire to help with this project in an ongoing role, let me know. Phil Rivera is
working on instructions for how to process the images using different softwares. It is not
complicated. (Thanks Phil!!)
Sherri Hall has been busy putting the new directories up to house the images. Janice
Armstrong has been busy overseeing the gathering of all the special information. Tanya
Holliday is working hard on programming. They've all been busy answering my non-stop
questions about what they want to see on the new site. Everyone's busy!!
God bless you all for your big hearts and willing hands,
--Sheryl Slaughter
