Greetings!!
I know I've been a little inaccessible for the last couple of months and I apologize.
We moved from Kentucky to Arkansas in late September and are still in temporary housing.
We should be in our new home in early December. I also am stretched thinner each month as
this project grows and can't thank my assistant project coodinators enough for taking
on more and more responsibility. We'll soon be asking for volunteers to take on some
additional duties that will become evident as we implement new features. We'll be
looking for volunteers to monitor guestbook entries, proof site visitor comments, etc.
Despite my upheaval, the great Kentucky Vital Records Project volunteers managed to reach
our image goal for the month. Our goal was 7,000. We uploaded 7,135 new images and
replaced 572 poor quality images from my first efforts at imaging 3 years ago!
We did have some problems getting transcriptions finished. Our goal was 7,000 and we
finished 4,154. We will be doing some shifting of assignments this month to help that
problem. While we understand there are some who have temporary setbacks and can't keep
up, we have a number of people who seem to be struggling consistently with keeping up. If
anyone needs to take a break from the project so they can tend to family matters, rest
assured that if you ever want to come back to the project we will immediately find a spot
for you!
IMPORTANT: It is once again time for each volunteer to send me a note letting me know how
things are working out for you on the project. If you need less responsibility to keep up,
please let me know which county/counties you have that you'd like for me to reassign.
During September and October we added 8 new transcribers and many new imaging volunteers.
We now have 18 people working on images for the project.
Proofers, since you only saw just over 4,000 transcriptions, I'm assuming your load is
okay unless you let me know otherwise. I do need for you to send me a report for each
person for whom you are mentor.
If you are an imaging volunteer, please send me a note letting me know how that is going
and about how many images you plan to do each month.
If you transcribe or proof and also process images, please give me a report on both
areas.
I want to remind you to contact Sue Robertaccio using the link on the transcription page
if you are going to be unavailable and need temporary help to keep your folders within the
30-day limit. Beginning this month, we expect those deadlines to be met unless you contact
her to work out a way for them to be finished.
4 rolls of the rejected delayed birth certificate applications have now been shot and are
being renamed. The agreement with Russell County Public Library is working out well and
imaging is moving along very will with the new arrangement on the death certificates. We
will be shooting those images straight through beginning with 1911 (which will be
completed before the end of the year). Imaging is ongoing on the 1852-1910 ledgers of
births, marriages and deaths. Several counties are finished.
Thank you all for your terrific dedication and spirit of cooperation. I know we have the
best group of volunteers available and applaud you for your mature attitudes in performing
your duties and working with one another. While I'm thrilled to see the project grow
so quickly, I really miss the good old days early in the project when I got to know each
of you very personally. I miss that. Put some chatty stuff in your notes to me so I know
how your families are doing and how your lives are going. I miss chatting with you!
I am so mindful of the long hours many of you put in to fulfill my dream. Thanks for your
faith in the project!!
