There are several things going on that are affecting images showing up in your
folders.
We are in process of getting a new image processing administrator in place.
I have been trying to find a way to get consistent quality in the image
processing. Right now, we are getting images that are varying sizes,
resolutions, cropped area, and straightness. The last batch had image sizes from
less than 100K to 450K, resolutions(dpi) from 96 to 150, sizes from 500x500
pixels to 850 and up. The changes in resolution from the 125 we provide and the
processors whose software is sizing down the images to in the 500's or 600's are
seriously affecting image quality.
To try to help the volunteers know what is expected and how to proceed, I have
redone the imaging instructions. I am asking each imaging volunteer to sign in
and go through the new instructions. If you see anything that is not right,
please let me know. I have only PaintShop Pro, so am not sure about the accuracy
of the Photoshop Elements instructions.
There are two very important changes:
First is to set up a folder that will allow you to see the height and width in
pixels and the resolution (dpi) of the images you finish. Secondly, we need to
work on not cropping too tightly. I'm seeing many images that are not
only cropped too tightly, but that have important writing cut off.
You all are working very hard and I'm sure the problem has been my lack of
keeping the image processing instructions updated. Hopefully the update will
help.
FEEDBACK PLEASE: I would love some feedback on whether it would be okay to
increase the number of images in each folder. Right now, we are putting 25
images in each. Would it be a problem to have 50 or 100? That would cut down on
admininstrative time needed to process images.
Hopefully by the time everyone is ready for images, we'll have a new image
processing administrator in place.
Please let me know when you have read the new directions and are set up to
receive new folders. Also let us know how many images you typically do each week
so the new imaging administrator knows how many to give you.
Thank you all so much for your terrific work!
