A number of you will receive notice that you have been subscribed to the decipher-l
mailing list. If you are a proofer or transcriber on this project, you should be
subscribed to this list unless you have special permission to not be subscribed. I've
given Janice a list of e-mail addresses to add. If you need special circumstances
considered, please e-mail me.
The transcription form has a link where transcribers may ask their proofer for help
deciphering a difficult name. There are several instances where submitting a request for
help to the decipher list is warranted:
1. You are using MS Outlook (not Outlook Express) as your e-mail client, so the link to
your proofer does not work;
2. Your proofer isn't sure of the name and advises you to post to the list or you
would like to get another opinion besides the proofer's;
3. You or your proofer believe posting the name to the list would be a good teaching
tool for others on the list.
Since the link to proofer was put on the forms, the number of messages on the decipher
list has gone down dramatically.
I hope you use this list to get the best possible interpretation of each name you
transcribe or proof. Additionally, I appreciate those of you who take the time to help
decipher a tough name and post your opinions to the list. This really helps the integrity
and accuracy of our project.
Thanks everyone,
--Sheryl Slaughter
