A some tips I have learned (the hard way) over the years for those who aren't
accustomed to reading a lot of "old writing":
Tricky letters and letter combinations:
"W" & "M"
"R", "K", "H", "B"
"i" & "e"
"r", "n", "s"
"in", "m", "ir", "ri"
"a", "o"
"al", "d"
"ee", "u"
"L", "S"
"T", "F"
"F", "P"
"e" written as a small "E"
"k", "lc", "h"
"b", "la" or "lo"
"re", "m", "ne"
"y", "g", "ji", "je" ,"ij",
"ej"
"p", "fo", "fa",
It is possible to determine the difference by looking at the word as a whole
rather than as individual letters. If it doesn't make sense, sub some of these
easily misread transcriptions to come up with a more logical name.
To tell the difference between "l" & "t" notice of there is a
floating "--"
somewhere near the letter.
To tell the difference between "i" & "e" notice of there is a
floating "."
somewhere near the letter
Hope this helps.
