You all are doing a fantastic job! We've now transcribed 2,000 certificates
(twice). We have volunteers of all skills levels. We are picking up lots of
offers from site visitors who have a desire to help but not a lot of
experience transcribing. We are putting them to work! I've tried to set up
the feedback system to be a learning tool to help more inexperienced
transcribers gain skills. This will be a long-term project and those who are
new now will be our backbone in the future.
I need to have two or 3 very experienced transcribers for every newer one
and we don't have that balance. This process will get easier once we get to
the typewritten certificates, but that will be a while. I'm asking anyone
who belongs to genealogy mailing lists or has other contacts to please put
out the word that we are looking for help from people who are experienced at
reading and transcribing older handwriting.
I'm also looking for people who are experienced record transcribers AND who
have a little familiarity with html or who are willing to spend a couple of
hours learning the basic amount that will be required to help index these
transcriptions.
Thanks for helping spread the word on our needs,
