Bonnie, I'm not in charge or anything so I can't say for sure-- but I'm
pretty sure that what happens is these lists are hosted on rootsweb--
which is a free site and nicely hosts these lists.
The problem with it is that no website can do something for free-- there
are always some kind of costs. Rootsweb is provided by and related to
Ancestry.com and therefore advertises heavily for
Ancestry.com. Consider
it the price we pay for free information-- small advertisements.
