Hi Folks,
During the last month, there were approx. 9000 images transcribed and proofed (exact
numbers are on the staff home page). There were also approx. 9000 images uploaded that
the image processors had completed. These numbers are where it looks like we'll be
maintaining in the future - or possibly higher!
What I need to know from each of you is how your workload was - were the numbers
presenting for you to work on (whether transcribing, proofing, image processing, or any
combination of these). Was your workload too high? Too low (there may not be anything
that can be done about this for transcribers or proofers)? Just about right? If it was
too high, do you need for a county or counties to be reassigned, or just need temporary
help?
I also know there are a few that had counties assigned that have either never started on
them or are still way, way behind and you've not responded when contacted by Sue for
transcription and/or proofing assignments. Image processors, there are a few of you that
have had images assigned for a long time and haven't completed them and you
haven't contacted me about them, either. Please take a few moments to check your
folders - transcribing, proofing and imaging and see what's there waiting for you to
work on and let either Sue or me know if you don't expect to complete the assignments
shortly.
Thanks for your dedication to this project's goals and to making valuable research
material available for KY researchers.
Thanks,
Sherri

I have three counties I do not consider heavy traffic for transcribing. The only drawback
I encountered was the number of documents sent to my folders in batches. It would be more
feasible to limit that number for empty folders and greatly reduce the time necessary for
transcribing before the next batch is renewed. That would reduce the crunch to a level of
keeping up within shorter time frames at the keyboard. The overall swing went from about
5 to150 for all counties collectively. Obviously, the 150 mark was extreme when a few
days had passed and a weekly schedule is used to complete the task. I can not control the
amount of days I am away from my computer, but that seems to be the only hardship I had to
defeat. Other than that, it went rather smoothly when the numbers were lower than 10 per
county and I was able to finish everything on this end the same day I checked on the
workload. I was also able to maintain by using my business email and staying on top of
the workflow from my laptop when traveling for more than a week, especially when I went to
Korea in December last year.
