I'm receiving feedback from the proofers that we are seeing a lot of the same error --
father's given name in the given name field for unnamed infants.
The record that comes up when you begin transcribing an image has some information filled
in. That information came from the Kentucky Death Index. The Kentucky Death Index put the
given name of the father in for the given name on unnamed infants.
Transcribers need to take that name out! We leave the given names field blank when the
child is unnamed.
This might be a good time for everyone to print out a fresh copy of the transcription
instructions and read through them to make sure you are not falling into patterns of
incorrect formatting.
Also, I need for transcribers to be extra diligent about double-checking every field
they've entered before hitting the submit button. Those who continue to submit lots of
careless errors where there has obviously been no checking of work before submitting will
not be considered for additional county assignments. Thankfully, most of the transcribers
are doing a good job. We need quality more than quantity.
As we pick up the pace, we need the transcriptions to be as clean as possible so the
proofers won't be burdened with fixing lots of errors. There are considerably more
transcribers than proofers, so the proofers have more counties and more records to get
through.
On a good note, the transcribers have done more than 1,600 transcriptions in the last 6
days! Way to go!! We plan to continue picking up the pace as we get volunteers trained in
more areas.
Thanks so much!!
