Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have fixed the Transcription Pending form and the problem with the Proofing form for the Race fields. I believe everything is displaying properly.
If you have further problems, let me know.

The pending records form is not working correctly. It stops displaying the form at the Race field. I won't be able to work on it until Friday. I've sent a note to Tanya to see if she is available to troubleshoot it. If not, I ask for your patience.
Thanks,

About 1,000 images are being uploaded into the image processor folders today. Everyone please note these are 1912 images from cert numbers 3900 through 4911. These are from microfilm, so we will use all of them unless they need reshot. If there are words marked out or copied over, it was done PRIOR to the certificate being filed, so we will transcribe what we see.
Image Processors: You will soon be seeing an imaging area on the staff home page where you can view instructions or contact the new image processing administrators. Watch the staff home page for links. These 1912 images have folders beginning with "ms". They should only need cropped and resized and should go very fast. If you have questions about the images or image processing, please contact imaging(a)kyvitals.com.
Proofers: You now will see the e-mail address of the current transcriber in the To: line of Proofer Feedback. Let me know if you have any problems with the new addresses. Note: Sandy Stutzman's e-mail address is bouncing.

Good morning!!
Your login and forms are working again. We may make them inaccessible again later, but I'll let you know.
The new batch of images should begin showing up on Sunday evening or Monday.

The transcription and proofing areas will remain closed this morning. I'll keep you posted so you'll know when they are back up.
We have added a feature that automatically inserts the transcriber's e-mail address into the proofer feedback link on the proofer form. Now we are working on a bit of touch up on the form validation. Hopefully this will eliminate the occasional zero showing up in the Birth Year field.
Forms for transcribing and proofing births, marriages and the pre-1999 deaths are being worked on also. Image processors are working on images for those records so when the forms are ready, the images will be in place.
It will be another couple of days before we receive the next big batch of death certificate images.
Thanks for your patience,
--Sheryl Slaughter

We're going to make the forms inaccessible for today so we can work on a couple of things.
Your logins for transcription and proofing will not work.

Do you have javascript enabled on your computer?
Quick way to tell:
If you make a mistake on a form and try to submit something illegal, if you get a small pop-up window with the error message and have to click OK to continue, you have javascript enabled.
If you make a mistake and get an error message in red text at the top of the form, you do not have javascript enabled.
I need this information ASAP. Thanks!!

Sorry, that last instruction update was incorrect. It is the Death Volume, not Death Year that requires a refiling of the image. There has been some confusion about how to handle incorrect death dates and death volumes. The instructions have been updated to:
Transcribers:
1911-Present Death Record: Death dates that are incorrect on the KDI will be corrected by the proofers.
Proofers:
1911-Present Death Record: On the death date fields, the information entered has come from the Kentucky Death Index. It is usually correct, so if you can't decide whether that value is Jan or Jun, don't correct what is entered. The death date fields are read-only for transcribers and can only be corrected by the proofers.
You will note the Death Volume, Death Certificate Number and Death County are presented as read-only fields. If you believe there is a problem with any of these field values, contact the project administrators using the link at the top of the form.

I've updated both the transcription and proofer instructions with the following paragraph:
1911-Present Death Record: Death dates that are incorrect on the KDI will be corrected by the proofers. If a death YEAR is wrong, proofers should contact project admins and pend the record. Changing a death year affects the image link and requires an image refiling by project admins.

Not too long ago several volunteers offered their help by taking care of
transcriptions for Marilyn Phelps while she was spending time with her terminally
ill sister.
Her sister rallied for a short while, but has now lost her battle with kidney
disease.
Marilyn, you've put such time and energy into this project, and it's much
appreciated. You and your family have our deepest sympathies.
If anyone would like to send a note to Marilyn, she can be reached at
ljpmap(a)verizon.net .
God bless, from all of your friends at KVRP.

Images that we receive straight from microfilm are not always great, but you can tell they have not been scanned at a low resolution, shot with an out-of-focus camera, or photocopied off photocopies of photocopies. We will use every image we receive straight from a microfilm scanner as no better images will become available to us.
We have a lot of images that have been submitted by site visitors that are not usable. If you come across images that you believe are not usable, send me the link and I'll unlink them from the project.
How do you know if it is not usable? Well, if the scan or imaging quality is so bad that you wouldn't sign your name as the submitter, it is probably unusable. This includes images that are scanned at too low of a resolution (resulting in those pesky jaggies on all the words), out-of-focus, blurry images and images that have been overprocessed and have missing parts of letter strokes making them almost undeciperable.
The final test! Think about the nice images we have just gotten for the 1912 records last week. Compare hard-to-read images with those and ask yourself: "Would I be able to decipher the names on this certificate if I had a nice clear copy like the 1912 images?" If you believe you could do a much better job deciphering the names on this record if you had a better scan, send me the link.
Secondly, if it is obvious that the record has been altered AFTER being filed, we don't use them. I do send posts to this list whenever we receive batches from the original records so you won't have to worry about those. Some of them have been written on and words marked out, but it was done BEFORE the certificates were filed by the doctor or registrar. Right now, those include Death Volume 1912, certificates 3301 through 3899.
Here are some examples of unusable images:
out of focus and overprocessed:

out of focus:

overprocessed with faint strokes missing making it difficult to read county of death, mother's surname and informant name:

poor scan quality and overprocessed:
