Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Louis Abner. (My ex MIL is an Abner from KY) You can also see the same name
at the bottom of the certificate in a lighter pen stroke.

Help Wanted!
We have a series of projects that Sheryl has identified as being necessary to
the setup and operation of the new site and software. They are of varying
length, from a few days to a couple of weeks or more. Most, if not all, will
involve some net surfing, possibly making email contacts.
If you're interested in working on one of these projects, please let me know
at
plusss(a)aol.com
Likewise, if there is anyone who is unable to work on anything right now,
please let me know. Rest assured, Sheryl will have new things to add to the list
before we're done!
Thanks for any help you can give,
Janice
4379 At first I thought was the same as the MD, but now I think it's only
similar.
A G (or D) Tur or Tuz? last part 'gy' looks as if could be written for a
'q' also, but not followed with a 'u'
Possibly someone could find out if a Barney Starks was living with a family
in 1910.

Yes, you're correct, there will not be any new assignments for another week

OK, thank heavens I completed Green Co. that had been uploaded so far
without any more mishaps.
Did Shery say that nothing more was to be uploaded for another week or so??

Ok, again, I SWEAR I didn't touch the enter tab........(my wireless mouse is
misbehaving)........No, really.....I didn't touch it. You can fire me if
you want to....or put bamboo shoots under my nails. I will still swear I
didn't touch it. I have a button on it.
Anyhow, there were a couple of things wrong with the actual certificate.
http://www.kyvitals.com/tr/green/dc/dc1911-6414.jpg
It gives the birthdate as 1911 but an age of 29 +. So I went to Vital
Stats and found the deceased birth which confirmed middle name, birthdate
and the question I was going to have on the Mother's maiden name. The
birth date is actually 1881....the mother's name still looked like an
either/or and ...the informant, which I didn't get a chance to put in is:
S. C. Patterson

Thanks to all! I think its probably Herman Walton.

I ordinarily wouldn't post something like this on the list, but I wanted to
make sure there were no misunderstandings in the making. I wrote the following
as a reply to someone who thanked me for my help.
"Thanks for saying that. I sure appreciate it when people respond to my
distress calls, too.
Back when we were creating the training program I worked fairly closely with
Sheryl and knew where she stood on things. With the new site being created, a
lot of things have probably had to be reconsidered and there's no reason why
she would need to keep me informed - or even could, without my being in on
every email.
I'm just sorry I mislead all of you when my intentions were exactly the
opposite. So I think I'd better leave the advice department to someone who has more
recent experience in working with her!
Thanks for the support :) "
And that's all there is to it. If you want feuds you're gonna haf ta watch
the soaps!

Janice, Sherri, Tanya, and all other volunteers.
I want to apologize to everyone for not having all my ducks in a row. I have made changes to the instructions without notifying Janice and Sherri -- not because I didn't want to, but because I stayed focused on making changes and didn't stop to pass the information to my right and left arms. I'm swamped. I owe everyone responses to e-mails and I haven't been feeling too great since a nasty bout with bronchitis around Thanksgiving. I am much better now than I was but still don't have as much wind in my sails as I'd like.
I am not scheduling transcription assignments for a couple of weeks in order to try to get caught up. This is a huge project and isn't the only thing going on in my life.
We have Tanya Holliday working very hard as a computer programmer on the new site. Janice Armstrong and Sherri Hall are excellent decipherers and organizers and work very hard on the project. They are terrific to help answer questions and decipher names on the list, but also do much in the background giving feedback, testing new forms and methods, developing directives, giving invaluable feedback to me, answering e-mail on our web site and much, much more!
These ladies are all talented, selfless and indispensible on this project. I just wanted to take a minute to apologize to them for not being as together as I'd like right now and to let them and all of you know how much I value your friendship and service on the project.
There are a lot of things that are a bit ambiguous right now in transcription. The fact is, we can be a bit flexible right now because we're pulling everything into Excel spreadsheets where everything can be touched up if need be. This process is an interim measure until we get the new database and forms functional. Until then, things might be a bit disorganized as I don't have enough hours in the day to do everything that needs done.
I surely appreciate your patience with this humble volunteer. If I had a bunch of money, I'd buy you guys a really spiffy leader that actually knew how to lead. Until then, I'll keep muddling.
Again, my thanks and apologies all around. Take a couple of extras of both. You might need to hold them in escrow for the next month or two :-)

Well, I guess I owe everyone an apology, too. Obviously I thought I was
passing along current information.
I think this is a terrific, worthwhile project that has the possibility of
impacting the research of many people for a long time. With that in mind, unless
asked by Sheryl to pass along something, I think I'll restrict myself to
email which concerns helping to figure out who wrote what.
Janice
Well, looks like I've thoroughly confused everyone with changes again.
The current instructions are correct. If you have a missing image in your folder, skip it -- skip it completely.
With the new process, we have a listing by folder of all "missing images", so we don't need a submission with the cert number on it to let us know that.
Sorry for any confusion. As we continue toward automation of this process, we do have to change the instructions and adapt as needed.
Thanks for your adaptability!!

Although the handwriting could be the same, the name doesn't have to be the
same if the Dr wrote in the name of the informant.
It looks as if the surname of the informant is Spring, and the surname of the
physician could be Berry/Barry.

Debbie has brought up a good point that won't hurt to be repeated.
Do you remember Sheryl talking about how important it was for us to
transcribe EXACTLY the correct certificate number onto the form?
The number that you type on the form dictates what the file is named, and
ties the image to the transcript. Even if we never are able to find an image
that shows the actual certificate (It could have pulled by the registrar for some
reason, and will never be used, or could just be lost.) we need to show that
we didn't accidently forget to digitize that cert.
If someone in later years has a copy with that certificate number and our
image shows missing, they will be able to enter the information into the
database. If we did not show a certificate of that number, this would not be
possible.
