I considered it, Nancy, and may still go that direction. The one drawback
about Google is that you can't schedule re-indexing (and you don't know how
often it does re-index).
I may still end up going with Google - even with a size increase from
FreeFind, we're still only being partly indexed. I'm going to try tweaking
the FreeFind search some more, too, to see if I can get it to index all of
our files, too.

Have you considered using the Google search? I put it on the Hopkins
Co
website awhile back. Carole Palmer said it wasn't doing right [not
picking
up something she knew was there]. I tweeked it and it works perfect now.

Subject: [KYARC] Archives Search Engine
Importance: High
Hi Everyone,
Several have asked about the new Archives search engine and we've not had
much info to report. David Crosby had developed one, but the server
hosting
the Archives killed it as they said it was tying up too much of the server
load. They're trying to work something out, but we don't have anything
further at this time.
In the meantime, I've set up a KY Archives Search engine at Free Find.
It's
still indexing our files, so not everything's there yet. I've got it set
up
on a temporary page at
http://usgwarchives.org/ky/clinton/new_search.htm -
ignore the fact that it says to search the Clinton Co. Archives - it's set
up for the entire state and also ignore the link to search the entire
USGenWeb Archives as I know it's an old one.
Please do some trial searches on this new search engine to see if we're
getting results that we should be. If it doesn't find something it
should,
please let me know. Comments are welcome - that's why it's in a
temporary
home. If this works, I'll send everyone the code to add it to your/their
pages.
Thanks,
Sherri
