Great work team...!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
TO ALL FMs
I will be back in Louisville by late Friday night and at my desk early
Saturday morning. If anyone has a problem, please contact Suzanne or
myself right away. I am on my laptop until I get back. We are making
excellent progress and the entire move could be completed totally by
Friday. No promises though <grin>. The text archive files are purged and
ready. The HTML files are frequently being delayed due to extensive
traffic on the new server because all states are transferring
simultaneously.
The new host information and password will not be distributed until Sherri
has confirmed the KYARCH directory is ready to go and in tact for ALL
counties. Please be patient and allow adequate time to make absolutely
sure we don't make any mistakes or loose anything in the move from RW. Our
state archive TOC still needs to be updated with all the corrected county
links.
REMEMBER:
The files that were transferred to the new server are dated 15 March 2008.
Hold your work-in-progress and DO NOT upload any more files to the RW
server or you may have to go back and grab some lost info.
Genrecords.org
has already redirected our form feature submissions to the new server
location. Keep track and save the automated notices you receive until you
can update your relocated TOC.
You will receive follow up directives as a final phase of our move to the
new "usgwarchives.org" server. That will be the easy part and your
specific county will have to be handled by you or a helper if necessary.
More on this in the coming announcement, but I plan to work this from the
BOTTOM UP to ensure accuracy and all FMs are supported as necessary.
Hang in there folks... We're almost home !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just an FYI
I've spoken with Sherri and she asked me to explain what is going on. If
you are like me, and keep copies of your Archive pages on your computer...
delete them. When the PW is given out, you will need to download fresh
copies of your pages (text & html) from the new server or they will not
have the correct URL. Sherri is still downloading the html pages and they
have to be done county by county so she doesn't download all of the census
images and tombstone photos again. That is on the top of her priority list
for tonight. Also, she is not subbed to the list at her work so she can
not reply to any questions but if it isn't something that I can answer, I
am forwarding them to her for a reply. As you know, Tom had to be out of
town this week and is very hard to reach. Hopefully, Sherri and I can keep
you up to date for the next couple of days until it's time to go back to
work <g>
