Hi Tina...
My issues weren't with the linking of pages, but with the coding found within the
individual pages. The W3C Validation Check was coming up with errors through it, which
were all coding errors. Until I took over the Breck. Co. page a few years ago, I had
never built a webpage, let alone managed it. So this was literally my first time coming
across the coding situation. Tom has been wonderful in helping get it figured out, and
once past this weekend, I'll be (hopefully) learning a little bit about coding and how
to correct the basic things... something I've never done before or known anything
about.
Have a great one!

I also use FrontPage. What I am doing is I have FrontPage open with the toc
page open and I have a browser open to my archive page. I am checking each
link to see if they work. When I come across one that doesn't work, I find
out why and fix it. I have uploaded changed pages, but couldn't see the
change immediately so I gave up. Some things I discovered was that the
newspapers folder was renamed to newspaper and that was causing some
errors...all the files for the newspapers were erroring because of the wrong
file folder name. I changed the file folder on the server side and that
problem was fixed.
I also googled the pages that didn't seem to be there. When I found it, I
copied the link and pasted it into the page where the link was wrong and
that fixed those broken links. Folks, there are ways around FrontPages
issues. <grin>

Dana,
I agree with Sherri cause I use FrontPage also and have the same problem!
The Archive TOC pages are showing up and our researchers can read them...
leave well enough alone! Like you, I am not an IT and don't want to be <g>
Not everyone in the project can write code and some of us have to rely on FP
or Dreamweaver to help us <g>

Dana,
At this point, I'd leave the pages alone (or download fresh copies from the
web if you didn't save the old ones). FrontPage is notorious for adding
'filler' code that confuses the validators but not the browsers. If the
pages are loading correctly on the web (I'm sure you'd hear about it if they
didn't <g>), leave the pages as they are. We don't need to create more
errors than we're correcting, which is obviously what's happening to you
(and many others across the USGenWeb volunteer webmaster projects).

Hi Tom, Sherri, and Suzanne....
I got the two emails earlier from Tom and have for the past hour and a half
tried to figure out what I'm doing. I did exactly what he said and went
from 90 errors with 2 warnings, to 188 errors. To say I'm in tears right
now is pretty accurate... not to mention very frustrated at trying to work
it down to 0 errors.
I use FrontPage 2.0.... and have since I started working on the Breck. Co.
Archives site. I understand completely about maintenance of the site and
using the least amount of space with the most amount of possibility. In
reading these error messages that the W3C Validator is giving, I'm at a
complete and utter loss at what to do and how to fix them. I didn't even
know they "existed" or that the FrontPage 2.0 generated them when I made the
pages.
Maybe I'm stupid and making/maintaining the webpages goes beyond what I'm
mentally able to do. Lord knows I've poured my heart and soul not only into
the work that's went into the pages and the site, I've busted my butt
bringing together Breck. Co. researchers to do transcriptions to help out
their fellow researchers. If I can't figure out how to correct these errors
and make it to where there's 0 errors and 0 warnings, I don't see how I can
effectively do what I volunteered to do.
I don't want to let go of the Breck. Co. site, but right now I'm at a loss
for what to do in order to meet the requirements of maintaining the site....
simply because the computer-ese is going completely over my head. Help
guys!
