Forwarding FYI - this is the new server that was mentioned in the message I
forwarded a few days ago.
See the bottom of this message for David's further explanation (below the
*****).

Subject: [archives] Things are moving forward
Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to give you all a heads up that David has the new server set
up
and we are starting to move.
Rather than clobber the server with 50+ people uploading and downloading
at one time, this time around david is simply copying from one server to
the other.
If he needs you to hold off for a 24 hour period on updating while he
syncs the
servers
then he will send you a message.
And I will let you all know once the new server is ready for you and give
you the
login information.
All you'll really need to do is download all the new updated pages which
will have
the new links.
Again to save time, bandwidth, this time he's zipping it all for us.
So once you do log in, you'll see folders archive_ftp archive_html and
zipfolder. That zip folder has all the changed files, ascii txt and html
files.
It does not contain images, assuming you all have those on your hard
drives
already.
You'll just need to download your files and start working on the new .net
server.
Be sure that you download those zip files as binary and please once you
have them
downloaded and all is ok, go back and delete those zips.
Those are there strictly for you to get backups of the new pages with the
new links.
We are doing this state by state and will notify each state manager as we
get there.
This move should be far far easier than our last one, we've learned a few
lessons and
let's hope this new server will prove to be much more reliable.
Debra

The data will be mirrored from one server to the other. I am setting up
scheduled scripts on dreamhost, to update from
www.usgwarchives.net to
www.usgwarchives.org a few days after. File uploads to
www.usgwarchives.net
will occur first, then a few days after on to
www.usgwarchives.org.
The file managers hopefully will not have to worry about updating
www.usgwarchives.org only
