David Crosby has finished moving the KY files to the
usgwarchives.net server. All of the
links in your text and html files have already been updated, so you should be ready to go
as soon as you do a couple of things. Here's what you all need to do:
1. Delete all of the text files and html files from your computer for your archives
counties. Do NOT delete any images (pictures, documents, tombstone photos, etc.) unless
you want to download the same files again.
2. In your ftp program, change the host name to
usgwarchives.net instead of
usgwarchives.org. The username (kyuser) and password remain the same as they were on
usgwarchives.org. NOTE: The username and password on the
usgwarchives.org server will no
longer work.
3. Log into the
usgwarchivs.net server and open the zipfolder. In that folder,
you'll find two other folders, zipftp and ziphtml.
4. Open the zipftp folder and find your county's zip file. Download this file to
your computer. Open the ziphhtml folder and find your county's zip file. Download
this file to your computer.
5. Unzip both of the zip files that you just downloaded and you're ready to go.
The
usgwarchives.org server will still be operational, but it will be mirrored from the
usgwarchives.net server. It may run a few days behind, though.
All submissions through the automated forms will go to the
usgwarchives.net server. As
mentioned above, our username and password for the
usgwarchives.org server have been
changed and will no longer work.
Please give your county a quick look and make sure that you've not got any broken
links. David has mentioned that there are some broken links in some of the states, but no
specifics were given as to which county/state.
If you have questions, please let me know. I'm heading for work shortly, but will
check things when I get home tonight.
Thanks,
Sherri
