Sorry - TOCs are the Table of Contents pages - the pages we maintain with
the list of files that are in our county archives.
DSN pointers (from a non-techie) are the IP addresses of the servers where
the domain is hosted. The DSN pointers are in the background and the only
time they would even have a chance of affecting our sites are if they change
the hosting server/service and don't change the IP address on the domain so
it knows where to look for the pages. Example, when the KY Vitals Project
was moved from Rootsweb to BlueHost. If the DSN pointers hadn't been
changed, when you entered
http://www.kyvitals.com into your browser you
would have gotten an error since the web would have still expected it to be
on the Rootsweb servers and the pages had been deleted from there, so it
couldn't find them.

Hi Everyone,
Forwarding a message from Joy Fisher. I know they were configuring a new
server so we could have control of our own search engine. It now seems
they'll be moving all of our files, too, but we shouldn't have to do
anything as far as updates to our TOCs, etc. Once they get everything
copied over, all they'll have to do is to change the DNS pointers and
things
will continue to go on... (At least that's the way it should work.

Anyway, if you find any strange zip files in your directories on the
server,
please don't delete them as they're the files being used to copy
everything
over.
Thanks,
Sherri

Hi Everyone:
David Crosby is zipping and copying files to the new server. This move
should require no effort on your part (at least that is what it says in
the fine print). If you should happen to see one of his zips in your
directories, please do not delete them or disturb them as a file transfer
may be in progress. Continue to work on your files, tocs and directories
as usual during the transition.
