Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Earlier this morning I changed and updated my pages. After they were posted back to the site, I went to check them and they had not changed. It took me an hour to figure out that the link I was viewing was our old one at RW!! The new link to our KY Archives is: http://usgwarchives.org//ky/kyfiles.html. So, if like me, you have the old link on your desktop, you need to change it before you go crazy too!! LOL!! Guess I should have had that third cup of coffee this morning <g>

Not yet. We'll let you know as soon as we do.

Do we have a search engine for the new hosting site at this time?

To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to
KYARC-request(a)rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in
the subject and the body of the message
I have just sent the new Archive information and password privately to the Kentucky FM's. If you do not receive that email, please contact me off list (syshephard(a)charter.net) and I will send it to you again.

Suzanne
OK, folks, we're ready to go. There are a few things that you need to make
sure that you do - they were put out earlier, but I want to reiterate them.
1. Delete all text and html files from your computer if you haven't
already. (Images can stay.) DON'T DELETE ANYTHING from either the old or
new server.
2. Download new copies of all txt and html files/pages from the new server
(ftp info to follow shortly) to your computer.
3. Update links to the KYGenWeb county site(s) to the current ones - you
can find them at http://kygenweb.net/counties/selection.html or use the
gateway page(s), which is http://kygenweb.net/county-name - for Adair Co.,
that would be http://kygenweb.net/adair. ** There are two additions to the
list of counties that aren't updated yet - Laurel Co. is at
http://kykinfolk.com/laurel/ and McCracken County is at
http://kykinfolk.com/mccracken/.
4. Verify link to KY Archives at http://usgwarchives.org/ky/kyfiles.html.
Verify link to USGenWeb Archives at http://usgwarchives.org.
5. Verify link to the KY Footsteps archives at
http://kykinfolk.com/kyfootsteps/. Any other KYGenWeb Special Project sites
most likely need to be updated, too. The ESH "Naming the Forgotten" Project
is at http://kykinfolk.com/esh.
6. Verify that you have your name and contact info on the TOC pages and
instructions on how to submit files on the main TOC page. If you have the
state FM and AFM, verify that they reflect Tom and Suzanne.
7. Remove any Rootsweb logos on the pages.
8. Verify that your files are set up as outlined in the Archives guidelines
at http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~usgenweb/guide2.htm (#3, about half-way
down the page). Keep the directories as they're listed or the search engine
may not find the files that are not in the correct directory. Submissions
from the automated forms are automatically put in the correct directory
structure. If a folder is not present, the auto-upload feature will create
it.
9. Clean up your county file directories if needed - make sure there are no
.txt files in the archives_html directory and no images or html files in the
archives_ftp directory. This is very important. ZIP files go in the
archives_html directory, but an unzipped version should also be placed in
the archives_ftp directory in the appropriate folders. If there are files
in the wrong folders on the server, please let Tom, Suzanne or Sherri know
and we'll delete them (per Tom).
**** 10. ABSOLUTELY NO LINKS outside of the USGenWeb Archives, USGenWeb
Special Project or KYGenWeb state or county sites. (See #6 on the page
above.)
11. - Update your TOC pages with any new files that have come in since the
15th of March - the files themselves are already present on the new server,
you just need to update the TOC. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RENAME ANY
FILE, INCLUDING THE TOC PAGE(S).
There is currently not a Daily Uploads list since some states are still
being uploaded to Rootsweb (not all of their files have been moved to the
new server, it's in progress) while others, including the KY files are being
uploaded to the new server. When one gets started, we'll put the info out.
Tom or Suzanne will be sending out the password to everyone individually
(not through one of these mail lists) shortly.
Please let either Tom, Suzanne or me know if you have questions or problems.
I'm not sure if Tom's still out of town or not, but if you've got a question
send it to one or all of us (all three wouldn't be bad). <g> We'll do our
best to answer.
