I'm researching SEYMOUR PRYOR of MASON COUNTY, KY. He was emancipated at age
41 by JOANNAH BERRY in 1838.
I want to trace Seymour before and after his emancipation.
I found a John PRIOR, a large landowner, living in Mason Co. Here is the
information I have found on him via the Pryor Book, posted on the Internet:
"JOHN PRIOR, Nov 14 1796 William Wood and Alexander D ORR, Article of
agreement for division of land on Lawrence Creek in Mason CO., Ky. The claim was in
name of JOHN PRYOR witnessed by Henry LEE D S 2 p Endorsed William WOOD, and A
D Orr agreement."
I believe John may have been a slave owner, since he owned so much land. If
anyone is researching his family, please let me know if you have found a
Seymour listed in wills or deeds.
Also, I would like any information that might link John to Joannah Berry or
her husband Thomas Berry.
I'm researching my g-g-g-grandfather, SEYMOUR PRYOR, of Mason Co., KY. He was
emancipated by JOHANNA BERRY in 1838. His wife was PARMITIA and MARIAH was
his daughter. I do know that Mariah remained a slave. I know nothing about
Freedmen were required to leave Kentucky upon emancipation. I couldn't find
Seymour in Mason Co. I checked a few Brown Co., OH Census records for 1840 but
so he doesn't show up.
Where else should I check for Seymour?
