It's times like this that I really do miss Alan and his fantastic database.
I spotted in the 1911 census that two of the Knibbs girls in my data
listed themselves as being in the Theatrical Profession. The girls were
two sisters, Alice and Ada Knibbs. They were the daughters of Sidney
Knibbs and his wife Alice Wastell. The girls were born in Bloomsbury,
London in 1888 and 1892 respectively.
A little bit of online searching and I found reference to what I suspect
is the two of them listed as dancers in a stage performance of "The
Dance Dream" at the Alhambra Palace of Variety, Leicester Square, during
the years 1901-1914. Whilst not 100% certain it's them, I suspect it has
to be more than a coincidence that two girls, with the same names, are
appearing in theatre, within a few years and a short distance from when
and where my Alice and Ada the self proclaimed "Theatrical
Professionals" were living in 1911.
At about the same time, I found reference to Alice Knibbs appearing in
the casts of: "The Naughty Princess" at the Adelphi Theatre, London in
1920-1921; "Round the Map" at the Alhambra Theatre, London; and finally,
"Eastward Ho" (a musical comedy) at the Alhambra Theatre, London in 1920.
It's a long shot I know, but if anyone has any other information about
Alice and Ada Knibbs, the Theatrical Professionals, I'd love to know.
I'm wondering if anyone has access to records relating to businesses in
the Niagara Falls area of New York in the 1850's-1860's.
There was a company called Knibbs, Hinckley & Co operating from Niagara
Falls and I'm interested to know what kind of service it was offering.
The co-partners in the company were Isaac Knibbs, David Knibbs and David
I've found details that the partnership ended in October 1860, but can't
find find anything else about it. I'm sure it will have been related to
boats in some way as Isaac was listed in 1860 as a Steam Boat Engineer,
and his brother David?? was listed as a Boatman.
Hello,David was my father. He did not hold a senior position at bristol hospital, he was the director of the pathology dept at Hartford Hospital. Not sure how you are related to us, but if you have any more questions feel free to ask. -Tabitha
