Good morning to Christina Hunt:
An old posting to Family Tree Genuform has resulted in a query from an James Edgar
Macklin of Virginia to me in Toronto last week. My great great grandfather William Macklin
son of John Macklin having orginally come from County Tyrone who went to Longford to
operate a general store there [C of I] and who was married in December of 1813 in
parish in County Longford.
In his correspondence he mentions that he has a letter from a relative outlining from the
bible outlining a group of Macklins who I have been looking for for about 20 years
marriage of one Edgar Macklin yonger brother to William Macklin who might very well have
born in Kilmore parish as well. In 1825 Edgar Macklin of Kilmore parish of Clonguish also
Longford was married to a Mary Anne Fearns on May 26, 1825 - 12 years after William was
Williams marriage records I have but not his birth records which very well could have been
not Templemichael. Oh so close.
Funny how research can get you so close and yet so far. I've been to Longford a
times to check out Templemichael but to this day have not been to Kilmore parish, the
being that you need to know almost exactly what you are looking for in order to proceed
my dear friends at the RCO in Dublin.
The question to you and the folks in Longford now is: What records if any still exist
for St Mary's and
St John's in Kilmore parish of the Baptismal, Marriage and Burial registers from say
as Edgar Macklin [and probably William Macklin] was both born and married in Kilmore? I
there is just the one C of I church in Templemichael and the two in Kilmore parish. Once I
know then the
folks at the RCO can send me a copy provided these records still exist. Thanks all.
