Helping friends who about to visit Ireland.
Their great grandfather ROBERT DOWLING born 1853 CARRICKGLASS, baptised
TEMPLEMICHAEL, Co LONGFORD, son of ROBERT DOWLING (a farmer) and MARY KELLY.
He came to QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA in 1874 from LONDON as an assisted
He named his house "COOLATTIN" and told his family that he grew up on EARL
COOLATTIN is in Co WICKLOW. Robert had a sister MARGARET DOWLING who seems
to have been born in LUMCLOON, ARGHOLD, Co WICKLOW 1841
and married JAMES COX 1856 in CARRICKGLASS, Co LONGFORD.(Family think they
went to Canada or America)
It seems this family moved north to Co Longford at the time when Earl
Fitzwilliam was assisting his tenants to go to CANADA.
Griffiths Valuation records show Robert Dowling was at LUMCLOON.EARL
FITZWILLIAM the immediate lessor.
Any advice on why the family left Co Wicklow and what they did in Co
LONGFORD would be very much appreciated.
