=== It says that he was a native of the Parish of Street , Longford Co.
Parish of (Street?) didn't look right to me ===
It is odd, but apparently correct. It is a small civil parish, lying along
the border with Co. Westmeath, about mid-way between Edgeworthstown and
Abbeylara. The parish contains 20 townlands.....no towns. John O'Donovan, is
his Ordnance Survey notes in 1838, wasn't fond of the parish name, either:
"I now send the Name Book of Street, a very odd name for an old Irish
Parish. It is dedicated to Saint Fintan, whose old church is situated in, and
gives name to the Townland of Kilfintan. This ought surely to be the name of
the parish; for it appears very silly to name an ancient Parish from an
insignificant country Street-town (Baile Sráide) which is not remarkable for its
history or antiquity. But this must be carefully considered."
Incidentally, none of the townlands currently shown in the parish have a
name even resembling J.O'D.'s suggested Street-town. I have also seen the
parish name spelled as Streete, in some early books/documents.

I recently found an obit for my Great great grandfather, Thomas DONAHUE/DONOHUE
It says that he was a native of the Parish of Street , Longford Co.
Parish of (Street?) didn't look right to me-the print was also difficult to read.
For a time frame
He was born about 1815 and left Ireland about 1836. At the moment, I have limited information about him before arrive in the US.
He lived mostly in Brooklyn New York
Died in Brooklyn October 2 1876
Hopefully I will receive more information from church records in Brooklyn, New York.
Right now I would like to know about the Parish of Street?}

Obviously a list member has been hacked. I saw another one this morning from a
Longford list member that didn't get on the list.
Please do not click on emails that come with nothing but a link.
And change you passwords regularly!
