Searching for information on ancestor:
LEIGHTON, Joseph, born 16 June 1841 at Ballinascraw townland, Clonbroney Parish, Co. Longford.
Baptised 06 August 1841.
Parents: Joseph Alexander Leighton, school master his wife Mary Jenkins.
Believed to have joined Royal Irish Costabularly 10.6.1859. Discharged 24/8/1864.
I wish to learn if possible some information on his life after being discharged from the RIC for family history purposes.
Thank you for your assistance.
I have just added the third file for Court of Petty Sessions,
The dates included are 12 Aug 1870 - 30 Dec 1870
Many thanks to Kathleen Snowberger for her work on these records. Some
of the place names are hard to sort out.
Kathy has been transcribing for Longford as long as I have worked on
this county for IGP. So 10 years now.
The Court of Petty Sessions was the lowest level court. The records
tend to be for minor offenses, but they give clues
on location where someone lived in 1870.
