I have some considerable records on this poor Protestant day labourer family.
-- Extractions from the Moydow, Kilcommock and Taghshinney C of I registers
-- Charleton Marriage Trust Records
No land records exist for this family.
Basically they appeared to move around, but have connections with the
Tanners of Ards Townland, as well as Leech of Kilglass, but for the
mostpart are in Moydow.

my uncle was on a troop ship that sunk off the irish coast and he washed up
on the coast during ww1. he lived. but i dont know the name of the ship or
date- i do know a u boat(german) sunk it with a torpedo and that the men were
told if they didnt stampede the stairs, they would all get out alive- some
stampeded and the capt. shot them- then they all did as he said and my uncle
was found washed up on shore. i dont know what county it occured in either-
but surely someone will have some knowledge other than what i know! thanks
ahead of time if you can help! linda
I am looking for connections between the Walsh families who immigrated to
Bearbrook, Cumberland Township, Russell, Ontario, Canada from Moydow Parish
County Longford about the time of
the great famine.
John Ferrell was born about 1700's and his son, William Ferrell was born in
Longford about 1744. They migrated to Virgina, USA. and William married a
Martha (mattie) uknown about 1764. he died june 15, 1778 Killed by Indians
in Russell Co., VA.
their, son william, was born in Washington Co., VA in 1774 and he died in
1842. About 1798 he married, jane Jackson in VA.
Their son, John Ferrell, was born in Va about 1790's and in 1820 he married
Sarah Alllison in Va. do you know this family? Thanks, jo ann Gibson
I have dealt with Longford Roots in the past and again
more recently and am very happy with the results. For
my search they checked all their church records for
births, marriages and deaths for all of county
longford, griffith, tithe and 1901 census records and
also gave me some helpful information on the parishes
where my ancestors came from.
I suggest you write or email them and tell them what
information you have and are looking for and I'm sure
they will let you know it they have the information
and how much it will cost.
The current fee is 65 euro and I was informed by the
people at the centre that even though it is stated as
an initial assessment fee they normally dont charge
any more than this.
There are a few currency converters available on the
internet according to them the 65 euro fee is about
US$57 at present.
Hope this helps you some.

Kathryn,
unfortunately, the Macken names mentioned in the message to
Barbara are the only ones which I have within my Irish Records as it
has been my practice to basically carry out a One-Name-Study of my
Mahady Family and include those names associated with any form of
inter-marriage but not neccessarily follow up the Maternal sides of the
Families unless this was available within other Records or such details
were supplied by others as part of their Research of their Family Name.
The Macken enquiry, by Barabara, has been the first such reference to
this name and consequently I do not have any sources to which I could
redirect you, nor find any specific connection with your own Mackens.
However, the contents of your message have now been placed within
the Mahady/Macken File, being held for any future reference, at which
time you will be contacted and advised of any associated Connection.
----------------------------------
The following Mackens were listed in the Griffiths Valuations and the
1901 Census Books, by David Leahy, which I have in my possession
since purchasing both personally from him, during 1990 and then 1998.

ALSO - Bridget at el. at bridget Fitzimons of Kilsallagh. Patrick at
Mulhare's of Ringowny. Bridget at Devine's of Edgeworthstown
Town. John at Ross's of Edgeworthstown Town.

Macken, Mackin, Maccan, Maken - Griffiths Valuations 1854 Index.

John, Mary at Ballygilchrist. Thomas at Main Street, Granard Town.
William at Market House Road, Granard Town. Bernard, Margaret at
Grassyard. Edward at Kilasona. Bartholomew, Philip at Muckerstaff.
Thomas at Mullingee. Bernard (2) at Main Street, Granard Town.
ALSO - Bernard at Main St., Granard Town. Thomas at Water Lane,
Granard Town.
Note :- James (2) means that named person was mentioned twice in
the Occupier Column for the location that follows this name.
--------------------------------------------
Two Convicts transported to Tasmania (Van Deimens Land) were
named (1) George Machin, probably English, on the Lord Goderich
and (2) John Mackin, probably Irish, on the Lady Franklin, as per
entries on a copy of the Shipping Lists I have in my GenDen Files.
Sorry that I could not be more informative towards providing some
Connection to your Patrick Macken but perhaps some of those, as
mentioned above, are Family, or open up new avenues of Research.

I am researching Macken. Patrick and Margaret Crelly came to Australia in

They were married in Ireland, not sure where, and settled in the Parramatta

I have written to Longford Roots several years ago and paid $75.00 for
information. I was looking for information on my gggrandfather Owen Kielty.
I received info about the marriage date of Owen and his wife Margaret Casey.
There was also Baptismal records for my ggrandfather and siblings.
Information about the county and townlands was included in the mailing. Also
a copy of Griffeths that highlighted land occupied by members of the Kielty
family. I was satisfied with the informatin and it certainly helped to
place my Kielty family ancestors in Longford county. Previously we had been
looking at Roscommon County. Gretchen Kielty Condon

My husband is a descendant of Bishop William BEDELL born 1571 in Essex,
England and died 1642 at Cloghoughter Castle. His wife's name was Leah, but
I don't have a surname for her. I have found several websites about William
BEDELL, but there is not any information about his family. If this looks
familiar to anyone - and you have information on this line - I would
appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Nancy Bedell
Hi gang...
I don't think it is cheating to mention that I have noticed for the first
time that David Leahy is answering some questions on the Ancestry/RW
Longford Query Board.
If you would like to take a peek and or perhaps post and don't know how to
get to the board you can find a link on the Longford Genealogy page at
www.rootsweb.com/~irllog
Scroll down the page and under the two search engines you will see:
Longford, Ireland Ancestry/Rootsweb Query Board in RED.
That hyperlink will take you to the board.
Regards,
Christina

P.S. If you haven't heard of David Leahy - he has written two books on
Longford.

I don't know if I'm researching Macken or not. It appears the "Macken" may be the maiden name of Ann Donnelly, who was married to Edward Donnelly. I am not sure of the name. Ann or Anna was born around 1817 in Ireland. Her daughter's death certificate lists her mother's maiden name as Anna Macken or Machen. Her son was a Catholic priest, James Donnelly, whose biography says he was born in County Longford and that his mother's name was Ann Mahan.
Is there any further connection between your Mackens and my possible Macken?
Thanks,
Kathleen

Hi there,
New to the Co Longford Website (IGP) in March was the addition of a Co.
Longford Marriage Page. This is a page for users to contribute their
Marriage records. Also have added a submission form for this new page and
the Baptisms page.
The url for the Marriage page is:

Hi!
I'm trying to find my Reilly ancestors who came from Drumlish, Longford
County. The parents' names are taken from one of my great-uncle's death
certificate. Sibling names are from this same person's record of
disposition of property when he died.
Parents: Robert Reilly and Catherine Kelly
Children: John, James, Robert, Kate, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Jane
Jane lived in Dublin in 1924 but didn't know the whereabouts of her sisters.
James, John, and Robert came to the US.
At his death, John had been in the US 40 yrs and his age was given as 72 in
December 1924. All three brothers were living in NY.
Thanks for any assistance/advice!
