This is my first foray into the Longford newsgroup, so hi to everyone from
the Sunshine Coast, Queensland AUS.
I am researching my g.g. grandmother Ann Leslie born c. 1836 in Longford,
dau of Alexander Leslie and Rose Quin. According to family sources, Ann
stowed away on a ship to Australia with a girlfriend when she was about 14
years old. She subsquently married the captain/one of the crew Alex
Pritchard in 1856 in Melbourne.
I would love to hear from anyone researching these families.
Saw your posting and just wanted to say I have a gggrandmother born 1793 who
was from County Longford named Ann MULLEADY. Her father was Patrick
MULLEADY and her mother was a SKELLY. She married Thomas MCGRATH. I notice
you have both of MULLEADY AND SKELLY in your tree - granted much later.
Ann's children were born in Shrule and Newtowncashel. Ann MULLEADY and
Thomas MCGRATH were married November 1, 1821 in Shrule, Longford. I would
be interested in anything you have on the Skellys and Mulleadys.

I am new to this group, looking for McCaffreys and Gannons in County
Longford. A daughter of my great-great grandfather William McCaffrey and
wife Catherine Ellen Gannon said, on a dispensation record in Brooklyn NY,
that she was born in County Longford.
Would appreciate any information on either of these two families.

I've just joined this site and I'm researching HESLANs, spelt in various
ways, from the area. Bernard Heslan was my gggrandfather. He must have
been born 1830-31. In 1847 he enlisted in the Royal Irish Fusiliers at
Maguiresbridge and his service record says he came from Dromard Parish.
There was also a John Heslan enlisted at the same time and place who was a
year older, also from Longford. I have detailed records of Bernard from
1847 onwards and I know from his marriage certificate that his father was
Patrick Heslan, linen weaver.
I would like to contact anyone researching Heslans in the area. I would
especially like to find records of birth for Bernard, John and Patrick, what
was the local RC church, and anything about Dromard, linen weavers and so on.
Any help much appreciated.

My interest is in the family Finn.
Richard was born 1822 I understand in Longford Ireland. His fathers name was
Edward. Richard had a brother James and a sister Bridget. He was tried in
Cork and transported on "Hyderabad 2" in August 1849 to Van Diemans Land -
I am very interested in finding out more about the family. Richard was
married and had a child according to his convict record. He remarried in
Tasmania to Ellen Brennan and I have these details to share.
P.S. Hope I did it right this time Dick.
