I am interested in John BEATTY and Mary KENNY of Drumhaggart, Parish of
Burt who had two children baptised at Knowhead Presbyterian Church in
the Parish of Muff. They were:
Mary born 13 April 1842 and Andrew born 1 April 1849. I think John and
Mary may be my great great grandparents. My great grandfather was John
BEATTY of Drumhaggart. He married Catherine McNAUGHER in 1886 at
Knowhead. He was described as of full age, a farmer of Drumhaggart son
of John BEATTY farmer of Drumhaggart. Catherine's parents were Joseph
McNAUGHER and Margaret ANDERSON also from the Drumhaggart area
(Drumacross). Because of misunderstanding of the Gaelic and Irish accent
McCONNOR became McNAUGHER so the McNAUGHER family was using variants up
to the 1880's, namely CONNOR, McNAUGHT, McNUTT etc. Joserph McNAUGHER's
given name at his marriage in 1859 was Joseph CONNOR.
John BEATTY and William BEATTY were at Drumhaggart in 1857 (Griffiths
Valuation). Other names connected with these families are WILEY, WYLIE,
KEES, DINSMORE, COLE, ORR, BARNETT, THOMPSON.
If anyone can help in any way I would be most grateful.
