What will I find for my McCOOL's and McLAUGHLIN's of Carndonagh, Inishowen??
Do you have any photos of the Sacred Heart Church's graveyard/headstones??
Have managed to connect to a couple of cousins over there, but have not yet
had the pleasure of visiting....
Hope to get there soon, though.....

Subject: [IRL-CO-DONEGAL] 2009 Pages of Donegal Records
I was going to post when I reached 2000 pages in my Donegal Genealogy
Resources website, but I just reindexed the website's search engine and
it reported it had crawled 2009 pages.............thats better
anyway..........reaching 2009 pages in 2009!
The address for the website is
If anyone hasn't been there, or been there for a while, alot of new
records and parishes have been making their way online this year - I've
even started venturing into Inishowen now. I also had to redesign the
front page as I was running out of space in the old one.
The latest parishes to go online are Inch, Fahan Lower, Fahan Upper,
Donagh, Mintiaghs or Barr of Inch and Desertegney.............everything
I have for them is recorded on the parish pages, though alot of the
census I haven't transcribed yet - I do have them though, so if anyone
is after any under the 1901 census headings and they're not online,
email and I'll get them online next, otherwise, I'll be doing them
alphabetically. And, if anyone has any info or links for those new
parishes, I'd be very glad to hear from you!
The latest records I've put online are the civil marriage registrations
1861-70 for the districts of Ardara, Carrick and Kilcar, two school
registers (Tullyfern & Inishkeel), 5 graveyards, Milford dispensary
records 1853-64, and RC marriages Lagg, Tullyfern 1885-1911.......plus
A couple of categories have been added or updated too -
- under Irish Name Resources I have compiled lists of first names in
English, Irish and Latin, Surnames in English and Irish, with meanings
of some of the names, and a list of the Donegal Parish names in English
- under Maps, Parishes & Townlands, I have started on building lists of
the 'official' townland lists used in the census and Griffith's
Valuation as well as a list which includes local names, which appear on
old maps and in old Church records, but won't be found in the census or
Griffith's Valuation............I'm up to around 4,500 and its growing.
Newest news for a couple of other websites -
National Archives of Ireland 1911 census -
The 1911 census for Donegal will be online before the end of this month,
so keep checking http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
- not long to go!
Ask About Ireland -
Some old Donegal books have been digitized and are online as pdf files
now - they include McParlan: Statistical Survey of the County of
Donegal, Maghtochair: Inishowen, Maguire: Letterkenny, Past and Present,
and Register of Deeds in County Donegal. The address is
Don't forget the 1857 Griffith's Valuation pages - there you can view
the original valuation and a corresponding map -
The online catalogue is a treasure trove of information and is at
as a resuslt of putting in my family name and area I now have their 1785
lease with the landlord for Stramore in Glendowan
Another good area of the PRONI website are the Will Calendars at
- these aren't just for the landed gentry - many people, even if their
estate was less than £2, often had a will or administration that was
recorded........these helped with the family retaining the lease for
their house and land.
LDS Pilot Site, Civil Registrations Ireland -
This is becoming a good tool for tracking down the civil registrations
of births, marriages and death references. The address is
Well, I think that it for now!
