Part of the reason in looking for David Sweeney born 1819-1822 is that I
believe he is the brother to my ancestor Frances Sweeney born Aug. 1828.
They both ended up settling on farms right next to each other and are
godparents to each others children.
From Frances's death certificate I see that her fathers name is Samuel
Sweeney. Unfortunately David's death record doesn't list his parents nor
does his obit.
From David's obit is says he immigrated to Monteal Canada and then to
Boston where he married a Mary Quinn. They then moved to Illinois where
they had one child, then to Iowa for 3 more, then settled in Wabasha County
Minnesota. At about the same time Frances Sweeney married William Sexton,
they had their first child in Pennsylvannia, then moved to Wabasha County.
I am working on getting Land records for David Sweeney's
homesteading. Hopefully there will be more clues there.
They may also have had a sister Bridget Sweeney who married a Patrick
Sexton. Bridet and Patrick were the godparents to William and Frances's
first child. Its also possible that Patrick and William are brothers and
the Sweeney connections here are coincidental. Patrick and Bridget also
had their first child in PA, then moved to Iowa and then to Wabasha Co
MN. Not sure what happened to them after the 1870 census - haven't been
able to find them anywhere.
Any information is appreciated!
