Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
The lists are quiet so I will jump in with something I've wanted to say for
For as far back as I can remember, I wanted to take my mother to Ireland so
she could see where her parents were born. Almost two decades ago I was
able to make the trip. She wanted to visit county Longford and would have
been contented with that, but I hoped I could give her more. I thought how
could I find out more about her family. I knew next to nothing about
genealogy and there was so few resources on the internet at that time. And
then I found Ireland Genealogy Project.
In that wealth of information was my mother's family. I now knew their
townland and their church. I wrote to the church who then spoke to an
elderly parishioner who knew the family. My mother saw the home in which
her mother was born, worshipped in her family's church, and much more.
I am so grateful to Christina Hunt and all the other wonderful volunteers
who gave such a gift to me and my family and I'd like to share this long
overdue thank you.
