We are researching the names McLaughlin, Dougherty, Bogan, Bogle, Meehan. Most of these families came to be centered around the estate, Monellen, owned by the Delap family, in the Finn River Valley in
Southern Donegal, but they seem also to have originated in other parts of Donegal. It seems sometimes that all of Donegal is related.Harry Cline

There is probably little chance you will find parents. Sadly the records in
Ireland aren't that far back. If they were protestant you could have a better
chance. Have you looked for a will? Go to Proni and do a will search on the
surname. I was lucky and did that and found my Bryan which named all his
children except the 2 boys who left and went to America. I also found through
the will that he died at Lifford hospital.

Re: McMENAMIN Families in NZ
Paul / Janice, Thank you for looking.
I am aware of the My Heritage data the suggests Edward was born 1835 at Lifford
to Patrick McMenamin & Annie McGowan. But I can't find a baptism, marriage of
parents, or other children for that couple.
There are six McMenamin's of interest in NZ that look like brothers (perhaps
cousins) but I can't find any proof, except Papers Past references. James,
Andrew and Patrick look to be in business together, but then there's the above
Edward, a John and a second James.
I've been right through NZ BDM records, but they don't show parents in death
indexes. And I've waded through all Newspaper archives.
I've looked for immigration records without result, and I've checked Ancestry
trees. While a number of trees have one of the above six, no tree has more than
one, and no trees have any suggestion of parents. I've also looked at Griffiths
Valuation & Tithe Applottment lists but it's futile without a specific location.
I'm helping a friend who is trying to find origins and possible
connections of McMenamin families in NZ.
Edward McMenamin (c1835-1918) married Jane Brown and had 11 children
James McMenamin (c1837-1886) married Annie Craig . No children found. On
his death she married Wyeth
John McMenamin (c1843-1925) married Elizabeth Wrighton and had 7
Andrew Mcmenamin (c1846-1921) married Mary Francis and had 10 children
Patrick McMenamin (c1855-1917) married Mary Murphy. No children found.
James McMenamin (c1855-1925) married Mary Ellen Creig and had 7
children. He died in Sydney.
Unfortunately only known parents of any of the above six McMenamins come
from and Ancestry tree
that suggest Edward's parents as Patrick McMenamin & Annie McGowan. I've
been unable to find a
marriage or any children for this couple, or likely baptisms for any of
the six using FindMyPast Ireland.
Circumstantial evidence from Papers Past in NZ suggest James, Patrick &
Andrew are brothers.
Possibly Edward & John are brothers or cousins, and the second James a
Does anybody recognise any of these families?
My friend descends from John McMenamin & Elizabeth Wrighton.
I'm hesitant to go to the costly exercise of purchasing death
certificates for each of them and find
that they don't have and parent details.
