Alexander STEPHENSON and Susan BEARD have been recorded as the parents of Matthew STEPHENSON born around 1830, the great great grandfather of my husband. On Matthew's marriage registration it is recorded that he was born in Co. Derry but on his death registration it is recorded that he came from Stralore, Ireland, which has lead me to this mailing list as I have been unable to find any deaths of Alexander STEPHENSON in Derry but there are a few in Donegal.
Matthew was totally illiterate so would not have been able to spell the name of the place he was born or his parents came from. Matthew died in Greendale, Victoria, Australia, in 1913 aged 82 yrs old.
