Family tradition has it that Captain John Bohun Martin of the SS
London which sank on 11 January 1886 in the Bay of Biscay was my
Grandfather William Martin's half brother. Great-Grandfather James
Martin of St Johnston, County Donegal, Ireland was born ca 1815 and
had a son with his second wife, Elizabeth Burns the aforesaid William
Martin, born ca 1 March 1857.
Does anyone have any information about the parentage, age, place of
birth of Captain Martin which might reinforce or dispel this

Can anyone on this list please give me some advice on how to go about
finding the birthplace of a gg grandfather, who was born in Co. Donegal? I
have lots of info on him and his family after he came to America ca 1817, but
absolutely nothing, other than his birthdate, on his life prior to 1817. I'd
love to find his parents' names, his siblings' names, his birthplace, etc.,
but I haven't a clue as to how to start.
His name was James WRAY, and he was born in October of 1797/8 in Co. Donegal,
Ireland. He had a brother, Alexander, who also came to America (although I
don't know if they came at the same time). There was also a Matthew WRAY,
born ca 1795, who I believe was a brother of James and Alexander. All three
were in Philadelphia, and James and Alexander became prosperous merchants
Any ideas, hints, whatever, gratefully received!
