I stumbled onto a tidbit for you. Don't get too excited... it's just a photo
showing Hoosier Hoops. But I thought you might like to see it.
While searching for Frank last week, I went to the South Whitley Library's website and
just for fun responded to their mystery photo while I was there. Ha... they posted my
answer on the site! (Didn't expect that.) Anyway, I got an email from the librarian
today giving me more info on other buildings in the photo and Hoosier Hoops is in it.
Here is the link to the photo:
http://www.swhitley.lib.in.us/genealogy.htm#PhotoMonth
And below is a copy of the email I received from the librarian (note: she should have said
"left to right," not "right to left.") From her letter, it looks like
Hoosier Hoops is the building just left of the white RR tower, built into the curve of the
tracks.
I emailed her to ask if they had any info on when HH closed up shop or if they had any
directories from the 40s or 50s. Will let you know if I get an answer.
I don't think he died in Whitley county. I can't find him on any cemetery or
obituary searches anywhere in this county. But I will keep playing with this. It's
nice to get a fresh set of names & dates to work with every now and then. I start
getting bleary-eyed after looking at my own charts for so long, haha.

Dear Cheryl,
Thank you for your reponse to our picture. We are so glad that people our reading our new
web-site, and helping us with information. I am fairly new to our library and am trying
to get more information about South Whitley.
I have some new information you might be interested to have for your records.
Center: (right to left) Hoosier Hoop Co.; Vandalia switching tower (for the Vandalia and
Nickle Plate R.R.) crossover. Train on the Nickel Plate R.R.; Vandalia tracks and depot;
with So. Whitley Commons at south side.
Center of picture: Prince A. Edwards sawmill; box cars on Nickle Plate and just east of
them Gandy Elevator. South of the Nickle Plate is Atoz Printing Co.; and Grip Nut Co.
(former Springfield Academy).
Far center is the Grip Nut Co. wooden water tower.
Thank you so much for your information and keep a watch we are going to have more old So,
Whitley pictures. Come and visit our local history section of the library.
