Message Board Post:
I am trying to find information about James Wallace between 1850 and 1860, born around
1812 in Pennsylvania (unconfirmed), and was the postmaster for Columbia City 1849 - 1850.
He had three children, James, Charles and Elizabeth (or Eleanor), all born in Ohio. His
wife's name was Susannah or Susan, possibly married in Ohio around 1836. The family
appears in the 1850 census in Columbia City. Something happened to James, his wife and
daughter between 1850 and 1860. Based on an affidavit for pension filed by his son,
James, in 1916, I know that his sister, "Elizabeth," had died prior to 1860, and
that he was working on the "Paige Farm," with Paige being a family name in the
1860 census in Columbia City. The other brother, Charles, is working on a farm in the
Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio, area based on the 1860 census (where he and his brother,
James, muster into the 120th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in 1862). I have been unable to find
any records of James or his wife and da!
ughter after 1850. James, Susannah (or Susan), and his daughter Elizabeth (or Eleanor) do
not appear on any cemetery burial lists in Whitely County, Indiana.
