Message Board Post:
Ethel was born about August 1878 in Churubusco, Smith Township, Whitley County, Indiana.
Her father was Jacob Wilson Nickey born April 1854/55 in Churubusco.
PROBLEM: her mother's maiden surname is Lord, however I've found given names (O.
"Elmina, Nina, Mina O., Almina, and Elmira), which is correct?
PROBLEM: was Ethel married twice? The 1910 U.S. Federal Census indicates she was
married to William H. Schwinger about 1908. This Census document contains an M (Marriage)
with a subscript 2, could this be a Census error? If it is not an error, Ethel was
married initially between the 1900 and the1908 marriage to William. I can't find any
information on whom, if at all, was the husband before William.
Possible helpful background information: (1) In 1900 Ethel was single and a teacher in
Churubusco, Indiana (1900 U.S. Federal Census), (2) In 1910 she and William Schwinger were
living in Buffalo, Erie County, New York. William was born about 1878 in New York State.
His father was Jacob Schwinger born about 1843 in Wurtumburg (Germany). His mother given
name was Louisa born about 1849 in Prussia, maiden surname unknown.
All information above comes from non-primary sources.
Ethel is my fourth cousin twice removed. I have currently identified the existents of
1,186 surname Nickey's and spouses. My work is far from complete, but I'm willing
to share everything I have. In fact, due to my age, I'm eager to locate individuals
that will possibly continue and share this information. Any information/help you can
provide would be greatly appreciated.
Any information/help on these problems would be greatly appreciated, Bradley (Brad) Baer
Nickey.
