Thanks for the info. It sounds as though this could be a source for a possible bio sketch
for early settlers. This just could be my opinion but a woman who did a land patent in the
1830's should be of interest to historians. Or was this common for Indiana settlement?
There are still some in my state that say women could not homestead and this is later than
the 1830's! A gr grandmothr from another branch did homestead in my state and I do
have her patent. I kinda hope this is a family tradition for women to be settling lands
further West! I have a feeling this Rachel was a widow who possibly married, died, or
moved on with other family members who settled near but in a diffo county.
I am searching for family members who settled in Blackford county, John Beal, but moved on
to Richland Twp, Madison county, Indiana. I have done postings for that county. I have
traced two of his sons to Iowa and my gr grandmother lived in one of his sons
households-mother died-the Rachel Beal Jones that was born in 1823-that I think is
connected to this Rachel Beal. My gr grandmother said Rachel Beal was her mother-not to me
but her children! The younger one I know is her mother but now I need to find this Rachel
Beal's parents.
The John Beal I have mentioned is buried in the Funk Cemetery in Richland Twp, Madison
county. I have his family history and one bio sketch for him says he was one of the
founders of the town of Prosperity in Richland Twp, Madison County, and he had sold his
land he first settled on and moved to Richland Twp in Madison couny. I am not sure how
long any of them lived where they patented land. I am going to try and find a website for
the library in South Whitley. I live too far away and cannot visit there to search
records. Thanks for all you help. Cindy
